The Wardrobe Crisis

If you’re someone with a disability, navigating features like zippers, buttons, shoes and prickly fabric tags can be a challenge. How hard or easy an item of clothing is to get into or whether a bag can be worn across the body are considerations that also need to be taken into account. And then there’s style: functional fashion is not always aesthetically pleasing. But people with disabilities love fashion, too. So why has industry been so slow to embrace them? In podcast episode 128, The Wardrobe Crisis host Clare Press speaks to journalist and creator of viral campaign #disabledandcute Keah Brown about adaptive fashion and the urgent need to make fashion more inclusive.

Exhibiting Fashion

In a year where just about everything has shifted online, UAL’s Centre for Fashion Curation has launched a new online archive of fashion exhibitions from around the world. International in scope and reaching as far back as the early twentieth century, it forms an invaluable repository for students, academics and journalists alike. Featured exhibitions include the V&A’s Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, Kensington Palace’s display of Diana: Her Fashion Story, and Lou Stoppard’s exploration of The Hoodie.

BOF Professional Summit

Business of Fashion is convening a meeting of global business leaders, activists and sustainability experts on 14 April to discuss what the fashion industry is doing to avoid imminent catastrophic climate change. It will also reflect on its duty to improve working conditions for the many millions of workers who ensure the fashion industry’s continued existence. The four-hour live broadcast will include interactive conversations and panel discussions, with new speakers being announced weekly until then.
