Brand to know
We're putting a spotlight on our coveted up-and-coming brands. This week: Corsicana
Corsicana
Spanish womenswear label Corsicana creates elegant clothes and accessories in luxurious materials. Pieces from the brand’s most recent collection – from dresses in beautiful satins to lightweight blouses in soft organza – are made-to-order in Madrid. We sat down with the brand’s founder and designer Paula Currás to discuss three of her top picks.
Previo dress
“This pleated dress is part of our customisable range. Customers can choose from different colour options to create a unique and exclusive design. It also comes with a technical sheet describing the possibilities for modifying the garment in the future. Our customer co-creates the dress, so they feel more comfortable and represented. All of our designs are also made-to-order, cutting down on waste and creating a more sustainable business model. The Previo dress is a very special and versatile piece. I would wear it for a business meeting or a special occasion, for example, a wedding. If wearing the dress with the [detachable] feather trim, I’d combine it with a minimal, heeled sandal and a furoshiki bag made of satin. The satin bag would complement the dress without taking attention away from it.”
Ghost tulle top
“The tulle shirt was designed around the concept of a second skin. It functions as a standalone piece or can be worn on top of a bra or sleeveless dress. This means it can be worn in both summer and winter. I would wear it with a strapless dress and a flat sandal in nude or natural tones, creating a casual look for an informal event or a date. Some statement jewellery pieces would also match this outfit perfectly; I’d go for a big golden ring and maxi earrings.”
Patent leather coat
“This piece is designed for daily wear but with a bit of a twist, as it can elevate a more casual look. The contrasting stitching draws lines on the garment creating some nice detail. I would wear it with jeans and a black turtleneck to go out shopping or for an afternoon at the museum. I’d style it with a pair of heeled boots and one of our mini tote bags.”
