Brand to know
We're putting a spotlight on our coveted up-and-coming brands. This week: ByVarga
ByVarga
London-based designer Fanni Varga graduated from London College of Fashion in 2015; thereafter, she worked for myriad fashion houses. Having won an ‘Enterprise’ award from The Prince’s Trust, she launched her own brand the following year.
ByVarga’s first collection is made out of natural and recycled materials. Lace, organza and silk feature heavily throughout. The collection comprises deconstructed classic shapes and unexpected cut-outs for contemporary elegance. Here, Varga talks us through three of her top picks.
Lea Silk Organza Dress
I wanted all of the pieces to be transeasonal. This dress, for example, can be worn with a top underneath or with patterned tights, which would create an interesting clash. I’d style it with boots to give it some edginess. You could also wear it with high heels to give it a different look.
Molly Leather Jacket
This is one of our bestsellers. It’s handmade and has this nice burgundy colour, especially when the sun shines on it. It’s always a showstopper, and it’s oversized so you can throw it over anything you want. An interesting look would be to wear this with a silk slip dress.
Carolina Silk Top
This is one of our key pieces, and we always get lots of compliments on this one. It’s made of silk and lace, with ribbing around the waist – a kind often used in sportswear. It’s an asymmetric piece which opens up on the side. It can be worn with a skirt so that it looks more like a dress, or with high-waist jeans. This piece gives the wearer a lot of flexibility. You can wear it to look sporty or with high heels for a more feminine and elegant [take].
